It Started Close to Home

Rick first encountered estate planning in a deeply personal way. As a young man, he helped his grandfather navigate health challenges and attend meetings with his estate attorney. That experience introduced him to wills, trusts, and the importance of thoughtful planning. But more than that, it gave him a sense of how legal documents could protect someone’s wishes—and how important it was that they did.

Learning the Power of Clear Communication

When Rick’s grandfather’s health declined, a family member tried to override what had already been decided. Rick responded the only way he knew how: with a letter. Calm, clear, and respectful, the letter laid out the facts and helped resolve the issue—no court, no drama, just a steady hand when the family needed one most.

“You Should Go to Law School”

Before sending that letter, Rick asked a lawyer to take a look. That lawyer assumed another attorney had written it—and when he learned Rick was the author, he encouraged him to go to law school. That moment lit the spark. Rick realized he had a calling: to make sure others could experience the peace of mind that comes from having their wishes clearly documented and legally protected.

Legal Education with Real-World Perspective

In law school, Rick focused on business law, estate planning & tax law. These weren’t just abstract subjects—they connected with the work he had done and the challenges he had seen firsthand. He saw how good planning could support small business owners, preserve family legacies, and prevent unnecessary conflict.

Earning an LLM in Tax Law

After earning his law degree, Rick went one step further. He pursued an LLM in tax law—a highly specialized graduate law degree that gave him the tools to guide clients through complex planning with confidence. This allows him to partner with CPAs, structure business entities smartly, and offer more advanced, tax-efficient strategies to clients who need more than just the basics.
